Pott Folse, Sitting On The Front Porch (Jin Records)

Way back when cars were heavy metal, only GI’s wore tattoos and shag carpeting was considered en vogue, there were more records like this one from Pott Folse.

Though it’s not music meant to save mankind, at least the 76-year-old Raceland legend’s carefree blend of swamp pop, country and novelty songs will ease your worried mind, just as music did generations ago.

On his primarily English material outing, FolsPott Folse, Sitting On The Front Porch, album covere is joined by his favorite musicians—his own progeny who field parts of four bands across Lafourche Parish. Not only are they pro players loaded with paint-peeling guitar picking, honky-tonk ivory tinkling and steady dance tempos but sister-in-laws Diane and Debbie contributed tunes like the title song, “She’s Leaving Me and I Don’t Know Why” and “Bayou Cajun Man” that has “regional hit” stamped all over it.

As Folse leads his bunch through Crescent City hits (“Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” “Goin’ To The River”), sentimental crooners (“You Call Everybody Darling”) and yuk-it-ups (“Mañana”), it soon becomes clear that these light-hearted proceedings are really “The Folse Family Revue and Variety Show.”

Delightfully entertaining, absolutely nothing goes to pot here.
