The Derek Trucks Band, Out of the Madness (House of Blues Music Co.)

Derek Trucks plays the blues with a slow-grind rumble ‘n’ pop, incorporating funk and groove with a soulful sway that’s a groovy as all get-out.

Granted, you gotta like extended blues jams and wow at really cool riffs, but if you do, this CD is like candy. The fact that this Florida native is already touring with the Allman Brothers (he is the nephew of the band’s drummer, Butch Trucks) at a meager 20 years of age, has released this extremely impressive disc, and owns so much versatility at such a young age, is enough to make many veteran guitar aspirants scream.

From the opening track, “Preachin’ Blues” to the almost nine-minute scorcher, “Kickin’ Back,” Trucks’ ability shines. Ain’t no potential about this bluesman, he’s already there.
