Mermaid Lounge Reunion to Celebrate Defunct New Orleans Music Club

From 1993 to 2004, Mermaid Lounge was a mecca for fans of New Orleans rock who were looking for something a bit different and off the beaten path. Located in the pre-gentrification Warehouse District, the club brought off-kilter acts from New Orleans and beyond to an aggressively unpretentious setting where music didn’t have to play by any rules.

Mermaid Lounge has been closed for 12 years at this point (its old location is now the site of The Rusty Nail), but the club’s spirit lives on in the form of the Mermaid Lounge Reunion, a festival that brings together acts that used to frequent the venue for two days of celebration.

This year’s Mermaid Lounge Reunion will take place Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10 at Truck Farm on St. Claude Avenue. Bands like the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars, Egg Yolk Jubilee, Supagroup, Geraniums and others Mermaid Lounge regulars will take stage during the party. Proceeds will go to the New Orleans Crafts Guild, a nonprofit that trains high school students in construction skills.
