Annual Mardi Gras Indian celebration Super Sunday returns March 15

New Orleans will once again celebrate one of its inimitable cultural heritages on March 15, 2020, when Super Sunday returns. The yearly event brings together various Mardi Gras Indian tribes and live music in one of the city’s most cherished traditions.

This year, there will be two stages and more than 50 vendors offering food, beverages and crafts. Headlining the event, of course, are the Mardi Gras Indian Tribes, who will showcase their hand-sewn suits as well as sing, dance and chant. Other performers include:

D.J. Captain Charles
D.J. Jubilee
Young Men Olympian
Lady Buckjumpers
B.R.W. R&B Singing Group

Presented by the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council and R.E.A.L, Super Sunday 2020 is free and open to the public. The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. in A.L. Davis Park (Washington Ave. and LaSalle St.). At 1 p.m., the parade begins at the park. Council Chief Howard Miller will head the procession, the route for which is as follows:

Begin at Washington Ave. and LaSalle St.; moving onto Simon Bolivar Ave.; turning left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.; turning left onto Claiborne Ave.; turning left onto Washington Ave.; culminating at Washington Ave. and LaSalle St. at A.L. Davis Park with cultural activities and live musical performances.
