Boutique Hotel Chain Joie de Vivre to Open New Orleans Outpost

Just a few months after the opening of the Ace Hotel New Orleans on Carondelet Street this past March, another boutique hotel chain plans to add some flair to the Central Business District.

Joie de Vivre Hotels announced that The Troubadour, the chain’s first New Orleans hotel, will open on November 4.

The Troubadour is a result of a partnerships between Slumber Corners, the hotel’s owners; Commune Hotels & Resorts; Chef Phillip Lopez; Campo Architects; and interior design firm Paletteur.

Housed in a 17-story landmark building in the CBD, the “free-spirited” boutique hotel hopes to bring a creative energy combined with the authentic culture of the Crescent City to its guests.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to add to the vibrancy of New Orleans by introducing The Troubadour,” says Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts. “This city brings alive our brand and its ‘Joy of Life’ ethos. The Troubadour will offer guests an exciting range of modern and locally-rooted experiences in an eclectic, Southern-inspired setting that we hope will become a part of New Orleans’ storied history.”

The 184-room hotel will take over the long-vacant Rault Center at at 1111 Gravier Street, which was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places (the building was the site of a deadly 1972 fire that inspired a state law requiring all high-rises to install sprinkler systems). While maintaining the historic exterior, the interior was redesigned to bring the retro and modern together to reflect New Orleans’ eclectic personality.

Chef Lopez (Root, Square Root, The Test Kitchen), a New Orleans local, will helm the hotel’s culinary offerings. Those include family-friendly bistro Petit Lion, the Lobby Lounge bar, and Monkey Board, a rooftop venue with live entertainment and installations from street artist Stikki Peaches. Local bartender and bar-owner T. Cole Newton (Twelve Mile Limit) is also on board to design The Troubadour’s cocktail program.

“We are really excited for the transformation and growth of the Central Business District,” says Wayne Hendricks, General Manager of The Troubadour. “Our hotel is at the forefront of this developing neighborhood and will provide a social hub for young, sophisticated guests with our rooftop bar, Monkey Board. Plus, being located a few blocks away from New Orleans’ renowned theatres plays to The Troubadour’s artistic spirit.”

Joie de Vivre Hospitality was found in San Francisco in 1987, and currently operates boutique hotels in four states plus Washington, DC. To reserve a room this November at their upcoming New Orleans location, you can visit their website here.
