Caroling in Jackson Square Returns December 18

A New Orleans tradition since 1946, Caroling in Jackson Square will return December 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. Presented by Patio Planters of the Vieux Carre, the free community sing-along gathers crowds led by local dignitaries and clergy. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. with Patio Planters volunteers distributing complimentary songbooks and candles to participants in the non-denominational event.

Mark Romig, senior vice-president and chief marketing officer for New Orleans & Company, will return as master of ceremonies, along with local favorites Harry Mayronne, Chris Wecklein and Amy Alvarez leading carols.

“Our non-profit organization has sponsored the event as our gift to the community since 1946, relying on fundraisers like our Holiday Home Tour to generate revenue needed to cover multiple expenses involved in producing the event,” said Patio Planters President Joey DiFatta, “There’s nothing more rewarding than looking out across Jackson Square and seeing the joy and camaraderie that this event brings to visitors and locals alike. Caroling in Jackson Square truly represents the spirit of the season.”

Caroling in Jackson Square will be live-streamed on www.nola.com and www.patioplanters.net where songbooks may be downloaded. The event will also be available for viewing after December 18 on WLAE via Cox Channel 1014, Spectrum Channel 711, Satellite Channel 32, AT&T U-Verse Channel 1032, and Over the Air Channel 32.1.

Prior to the event, Patio Planters offers a French Quarter Holiday Home Tour, a self-guided walking tour from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Tickets to the tour, which supports the annual Caroling in Jackson Square, are $30 preordered and $35 the day of the event. Children 12 and under are free.
