In a world where AI is churning out images and music at an alarming rate, local musician Chris Vincent returns with an audio and visual treat that is 100% human heart and soul.
The acclaimed roots, blues, and Americana songwriter, guitarist, and singer has released The Chicken Mart EP, a limited-edition 7-inch custom red vinyl born from a collaborative, entirely New Orleans-based creative effort. The project brings together visual artist and printmaker Anthony DelRosario of NOLA Nacular Gallery, the craftsmanship of Scott Bourne and his team at New Orleans Record Press, and the sonic expertise of Grammy Award-winning owner and engineer Jake Eckert of The Rhythmshack Studio.
The record features two new Chris Vincent originals, “Wolves” and “Scar Tissue,” and arrives on the heels of his widly praised 2025 album Good Crook, featuring drummer Johnny Vidacovich. The Chicken Mart EP is more than a record — it’s a fully local artifact. Written, recorded, designed, pressed and printed entirely in New Orleans, the release stands as a testament to the city’s enduring creative ecosystem.
“For me, the decision was simple,” Vincent says. “New Orleans and her people inspire the vast majority of the songs I write, so it simply made sense. Anthony and I are personal friends, and the cover for The Chicken Mart’ 7-inch has been hanging on a wall in my studio all along. Art imitates life, indeed.”
DelRosario’s striking artwork—long a fixture in Vincent’s creative space—now finds its natural home as the record’s cover, seamlessly bridging visual and musical storytelling. Meanwhile, Eckert’s engineering at The Rhythmshack Studio captures Vincent’s raw, one-take ethos with clarity and warmth, preserving the immediacy that has become a hallmark of his recordings.
“The cover was created by adapting a digitized version of an 18 inch by 24 inch linocut of Chicken Mart to screen print on the 7-inch cover. One inner label is using a new linocut of a baying wolf inspired by the song title, ‘Wolves.’ The 7-inch release harkens back to the DIY punk/indie aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s,” DelRosario explains.
With The Chicken Mart EP, Chris Vincent continues to blur the lines between both musical genres and collaboration and community, delivering a project that is as much about the city that shaped it as it is about the songs themselves.
The 7-inch EP, complete with hand-printed covers by DelRosario, lyric sheets and limited-edition original swag celebrating the release will be first available in limited quantities at NolaNacular’s 3rd Anniversary Party on Saturday, May 30, 1172 Magazine Street.
