Wiener Dog Racing Will Return to the Fair Grounds Race Course

Hold onto your horses because wiener dog racing is returning to the Fair Grounds Race Course on Saturday, March 4.

wiener-dog-racing-webThe annual competition will follow the same format as past editions, with 48 purebred dachshunds competing for cash and goodie baskets. Participants will be divided into four heats of twelve dogs, and the first, second and third place winners from each heat will compete in final championship race.

The top finishers will be rewarded with cash prizes and goodie baskets valued at $100, while the overall winner will receive $500 in cash.

Unfortunately for the gamblers out there, betting will not take place at these races.

Dachshund owners that would like to see their dogs compete can apply here. The 48 competitors and six alternates will be selected from among the eligible applicants.

General admission will cost $5, with $10 for standard clubhouse admission. Childrens age 12 and under will be get in for free.
