Folk Alliance International will host Folk+, a free two-day virtual gathering connecting artists and industry professionals across its global network.

Running April 29–30, the Folk+ event features a mix of performances, workshops and professional development sessions designed to support working musicians and spotlight diverse voices within the folk community. Highlights from the schedule include a panel on the rising cost of ticketing and its impact on venues and fans, a songwriting workshop titled “Songwriting to Meet the Moment,” and sessions focused on podcasting, YouTube strategy and the continued relevance of physical media formats like vinyl and CDs.

Interactive elements in Folk+ remain central to the event, with networking sessions like “Elevator Rides,” a virtual Campfire Song Share, and a Performance Lane featuring short artist showcases. Some sessions require advance registration, and recordings will be made available following the event.

Highlights include a panel on the evolving ticketing landscape will examine the growing challenges facing independent venues, promoters, and presenters. As resale-driven price distortion, speculative listings, and shifting platform dynamics reshape how live events are priced and experienced, the discussion will explore the impact on operations, artist relationships, and long-term sustainability. Panelists will also consider who benefits from the current system and what emerging policy reforms could mean for the future of the live music industry. Folk+ is free to attend, with optional donations supporting regional programming for folk artists.
