FOX 8 to begin airing ‘Louisiana Rising’ virtual concerts

This Saturday, April 4, WVUE-TV and sister stations throughout Louisiana will begin to air statewide virtual concerts performed by musicians in quarantine. The broadcast series — dubbed “Louisiana Rising: Songs From Home” — will include appearances from performers taped on front porches, living rooms, backyards and other domestic settings.

Thirty minutes long, the commercial-free virtual concert is made possible through the donation of time and talent by the participating musicians.

WVUE-TV’s Vice President and General Manager Ronna Corrente said in a statement, “We’re excited to launch this innovative concert series to lift the spirits of so many around the state. In addition to sharing their talents with Louisianans, these great artists will use their voices and air-time to promote  different charitable causes close to their hearts, and viewers will be able to connect with these  artists’ social pages to also support the causes of their choice.”

Gray Television Senior Vice President Sandy Breland added, “Statewide, our dedicated journalists are doing an incredible job
reporting the facts about COVID-19, but we know that information can sometimes by scary. While we may be distant, we’re excited to bring people together and spread a little joy through music, which is such an integral part of our culture.”

The plan is for “Louisiana Rising” to air for three consecutive weekends at least, with different artists each time. This weekend, the program will run on FOX 8 Saturday, April 4 at 1 and 5:30 p.m. CST and again at 1 p.m. CST on Sunday, April 5. For more information, click here.
