Tipitina's -- and its owners Galactic -- are asking the public for help

Galactic, owners of Tipitina’s, launches Tip-It foundation for music

Tipitina’s has seen success and growth in the year since Galactic purchased the venue.  “We’re so incredibly honored to be part of the team tasked to be the current caretakers of such a historic venue,” said Galactic’s Ben Ellman. “The importance of respecting what Tip’s means for musicians and the city of New Orleans is not lost on us.”

Galactic has been running the famed venue with the care and respect they promised and now they are going one step further by launching the Tip-It Foundation

The goal of Tip-It is “to support and promote the future of the Gulf South’s music, culture and heritage via the Tipitina’s venue and brand” and its mission is “to elevate musical and cultural legacies through community outreach and education.”

The Tip-It Foundation will be partnering with other local charities to raise maximum funds and will be administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, in order to continue Tipitina’s legacy of giving while avoiding the lack of transparency surrounding the business dealings of Tipitina’s previous owner.

Teaming up to raise funds is a rich part of Galactic’s history as a band. Last year they performed at a Hurricane Florence Benefit with The Soul Rebels. In 2016, they partnered with Ani DiFranco for the New Orleans Charter School Benefit.

Tip-It’s first fundraiser occurred last Friday at Tipitina’s. Harvest the Music: A Benefit Supporting Second Harvest Food Bank and Richard Vogel and Stanton Moore already told nola.org that they’ll be “stag[ing] a charitable fundraiser on ‘Jazz Fest Monday’ in 2020.”
