Galactic Performs with War Harmonica Ace Lee Oskar

New Orleans mainstays Galactic were joined by War harmonica legend Lee Oskar for a one-off set at the Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, VA on Saturday. The set was one of many collaborative endeavors at the festival, which also saw Anders Osborne perform Grateful Dead tunes with members of the Dead, Phish and Infamous Stringdusters.

Galactic was joined by their latest touring vocalist, Eric Falls, for much of the set before Oskar took the stage midway through the show. The Danish harmonica wizard (who currently with latter-day War outfit The Lowrider Band) added another layer to the group’s funky sound when he joined in for a rendition of the War classic “Slippin’ Into Darkness” that was followed by the Galactic original “Never Called You Crazy.”

Oskar took a break for a few songs before returning to close out the set with a run that included the Pointer Sisters’ “Going Down Slowly, “Dolla Diva,” Rebirth Brass Band’s “AP Touro,” Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” and, finally, “Heart of Steel.”

The Lockn’ Festival brought a jam-filled line to Arrington, VA’s Oak Ridge Farm from Thursday, August 25 to Sunday, August 28. The event featured two headlining performances from Phish, as well as sets from My Morning Jacket, two incarnations of Phil Lesh and Friends, Gary Clark Jr., Ween, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Umphrey’s McGee, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Lettuce and many more.
