The Girls Play Trumpets Too Spring Concert featuring acclaimed female trumpeter Ingrid Jensen takes place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music (1901 Bartholomew St.). The Spring Concert will bring together nationally recognized artists, young musicians who participate in the program, and the spirit of New Orleans culture for an afternoon of music and empowerment.
Founded by acclaimed New Orleans trumpeter and educator Troy Sawyer, GPTT is dedicated to empowering girls ages 8 to 19 through trumpet instruction, mentorship, leadership development, and cultural education rooted in the traditions of New Orleans music.
This year’s Spring Concert will feature a special guest appearance by internationally acclaimed trumpeter Ingrid Jensen. Jensen’s participation represents a deeply meaningful full-circle moment for Sawyer and the organization, as her artistry helped inspire the vision behind Girls Play Trumpets Too and the mission to show young girls that women belong in brass music leadership spaces.
“This concert is bigger than music,” said Sawyer. “It’s about representation, empowerment, and showing these young girls that their dreams are possible. Having Ingrid Jensen join us is incredibly meaningful because her artistry helped inspire my vision for Girls Play Trumpets Too.”
The organization has gained national attention through appearances on The Kelly Clarkson Show alongside Justin Timberlake and a featured segment on CBS Mornings with Michelle Miller. GPTT has also performed at major cultural events including New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival and Satchmo SummerFest.
The concert will celebrate months of dedication from the young musicians, who have balanced school, rehearsals, performances, and private lessons while continuing to grow artistically and personally. Guests will also enjoy catering from Willie Mae’s during the event. Tickets are available now through GPTT’s website. Early bird pricing is currently available for a limited time.
