Gulf Assistance Coming from SoCo and Across America

[UPDATED] While each day brings another outrage in the BP oil disaster saga—today, BP contradicts itself on the importance of the flow rate—it also brings news of help.

This week, Southern Comfort and Lenny Kravitz joined the Gulf Relief Foundation as they donated $35,000 to the Plaquemines Parish Community C.A.R.E.S. Center. The donation was the start of Southern Comfort’s $250,000 donation to the Gulf Relief Foundation to help the fishing communities and wetlands preservation in Plaquemines Parish.

Also this week, nightclubs across the country including Tipitina’s and the Blue Nile in New Orleans and the Viper Room, the Roxy and the Mint in Los Angeles will host simultaneous concerts July 1, all benefiting the Gulf Restoration Network. The lineups for the New Orleans shows haven’t been announced yet.

Doors open at Tipitina’s at 8 p.m. with the show starting at 9. Artists performing include Galactic, Coco Robicheaux, Ivan Neville, Rotary Downs, John Gros, We are One Brass Band, Young Fellaz Brass Band, Joe Krown Trio w/ Joe Krown, Walter “Wolfman” and Russell Batiste, and more.
