Germaine Bazzle kicks off the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's free concert series on March 5, 2020

Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s Free Concerts to Highlight Women in Music

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation has announced the lineup and schedule for its 2020 free concert series, Chanteuse: Celebrating New Orleans Women in Music, as well as a Sync Up event. The series will take place over the course of two weeks and will feature outstanding New Orleans talent, opening with the legendary Germaine Bazzle.

Iconic New Orleans jazz singer Germaine Bazzle will kick off the concert series, sponsored in part by OffBeat, with a performance on March 5 at 8:00 p.m. In addition to her performance, there will be a Sync Up event that spotlights Bazzle discussing her life in music with Gwen Thompkins, which takes place at a later date. The remaining concert series lineup and schedule is as follows:

Lilli Lewis Project: March 6 at 8:00 pm

Alexis and the Samurai with special guest Alexandra Scott: March 7 at 8:00 pm

Cyrille Aimée: March 12 at 8:00 pm

Maggie Koerner: March 13 at 8:00 pm

Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns: March 14 at 8:00 pm 

Special event: SyncUp Session- Germaine Bazzle in conversation with Gwen Thompkins: March 11 at 7:00 pm

In a statement by the Foundation, the choice of a focus on women was explained. “This series of programs focusing on women and femme-identifying persons comes during a time when the lack of women in roles throughout the music industry has come to the forefront. It’s time to make the music industry more inclusive for everyone. Chanteuse is part of an ongoing effort by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation to address inequities in the music industry.”

All events part of Chanteuse are free and will be held at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, located at 1225 N. Rampart St. Doors for the Sync Up event will open at 6:30 pm and the program will begin at 7:00 pm. Admission to the Sync Up event is free, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP here.
