Lady Rollers 2011 Second Line Parade: Photos

The Lady Rollers’ 16th-annual second line parade staked a claim in New Orleans history Saturday, saying its the first time that white parade or marching groups have formally taken part in a traditional African-American second line. The seeds for the partnership were apparently sown as a result of Ladyfest’s all-female YeMaYa parade on November 5.

Members of the Pussyfooters, Camel Toe Lady Steppers, and the Party Line joined the Lady Rollers, founded by Ms. Linda Green of Yakamein fame, as they came out Tipitina’s and marched through Uptown, stopping at the Rock Bottom Lounge, Reese’s Snoballs, the Mayfair Lounge, Sandpiper Lounge, Silky’s, Big Man’s Lounge, Le Roux Reception Hall, and the Keep-N-It Real Social Aid & Pleasure Club before disbanding back at Tipitina’s. The One Mind Band led the second line.
