Last Call: Threadhead Foundation 2014 Artist Grant Submissions
Due October 21

For the fifth year, the Threadhead Cultural Foundation has opened submissions for their grant program to local artists whose work is in the tradition of preserving, promoting and disseminating the cultural heritage of New Orleans and  Louisiana. As the philanthropic arm of the New Orleans music imprint, Threadhead Records, the  non-profit organization selects a small group of Louisiana artists each year to produce individual cultural projects with support from the Foundation.

Many of these projects take shape as full album recordings which are then made available via Threadhead Records’ catalog. In today’s music industry climate, root-music artists often don’t have the funds to produce a full body of work, making Threadhead’s role in preserving and nurturing local culture all the more necessary. Threadhead artists are given complete creative control of their projects once selected for funding, but are required to submit a project theme and plan to the Foundation in order to first qualify for a grant.

Past grant recipients have included some of New Orleans’ best and brightest talents, like John Boutté, Paul Sanchez, Shamarr Allen, Susan Cowsill, Bob French, Ingid Lucia and more. The 2013 Threadheads publishing projects this season are Glen David Andrews, Tricia Boutte, Arsene Delay and Craig Klein. Studio recordings from these artists have been tracked in New Orleans and release information is available on the Threadhead website. Now that the 2013 ‘heads have come full circle, that means it’s time for prospective 2014 Threadheads to submit their project proposals.

The deadline to submit an artist project proposal for the Threadhead Foundation’s 2014 program is Monday, October 21, 2013. Awards will be announced on November 15, 2013 and projects should be completed by November 15, 2014. Interested artists have through this weekend and the end of the day Monday to apply to be a 2014 Threadhead recipient. More information, program details and the online application cane be found on the Foundation website here, or by emailing [email protected].

Additionally, for those who wish to support Threadhead, the organization is  running a membership drive to help to raise a goal of $35,000 to be distributed to the selected artists for 2014. Membership options offer benefits like a 20% annual discount at Louisiana Music Factory at even the entry level, and are available also on the Foundation website here.
