Le Petit Theatre Announces Programming For New Season

On October 5, Le Petit Theatre’s 2018-2019 season kicks off with “Satchmo at the Waldorf,” launching the local company’s programming for its next year.

According to Artistic Director Maxwell Williams, this season’s plays will are based on or inspired by literature. “As we go through the season we’ll swing wildly around the geographical and emotional map, which excites our audiences here.  With a Tony Award-winning musical comedy, a searing Tennessee Williams adaptation, a brand-new holiday spectacular, and two inspiring and autobiographical plays, there’s going to be something for everyone,” says Williams.

“Satchmo at the Waldorf is,” is, according to Le Petit Theatre, “an extraordinary one-man, three-character play that journeys into the heart and mind of New Orleans’ beloved jazz legend, Louis Armstrong.” Following it in the season is “A Christmas Carol,” the first-annual production of Charles Dickens’ heartwarming Victorian classic. Le Petit Theatre’s version will feature young artists from its newly-launched Young Conservatory Program. Next up is  “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” which kicks off at the top of 2019 and is described as a “knock-’em-dead, uproarious hit and the most-nominated show of the 2014 Broadway season.” Following that is the regional premiere of “Baby Doll,” based on Tennessee Williams’ one-act play 27 “Wagons Full of Cotton” and the controversial 1956 film. Finally, Le Petit Theatre is bringing Grammy-nominated piano virtuoso Mona Golabek in to close the season with her inspirational show “The Pianist of Willesden Lane.”
