Loa Concert Series Continues with Michaela Harrison

MichaelaHarrisonThe singer-songwriter series “Echoes from Laurel Canyon” continues at Loa Bar in the International House hotel  in downtown New Orleans with a fourth performance featuring vocalist Michaela Harrison on Tuesday, July 21st.

“Main performers get to invite two guests of their choosing and they get to take turn at the mic, talking and singing,” said the International House Director of Marketing Laura Gurievsky, also describing the Loa as a “really intimate, up-scale, loungey, living-roomey kind of setting.”

Local songstress Harrison will take her turn, following the series of all-female, local songwriter performances that started in April with Sasha Masakowski, followed by Alexandra Scott and Cristina Perez

The series of events is reminiscent of a special time and place crucial to American music history. Lookout Mountain, in the Laurel Canyon just outside of Los Angeles, was inhabited through the late 60s and 70s by a multitude of artists who helped shape a new approach to music and to life in the U.S. Artists such as Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, The Doors’ Jim Morrison and David Crosby all found a home in the cozy and quiet hills of Laurel Canyon, away from the ruckus of L.A.’s constant agitation.

Gurievsky said the theme sets the mood for the event but in no way puts restrictions on the artists’ music when they perform.

Admission to the concert series is free and takes place on the third Tuesday of each month. Singer Mia Borders will take the stage next, in August, and will be followed by Mykia Jovan in September.
