Local Musicians Sit In with Snarky Puppy

Grammy Award-winning ensemble Snarky Puppy got some help from a pair of New Orleans residents when they returned to the Howlin’ Wolf on Sunday night. The progressive jazz outfit was joined by Lettuce trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom and longtime Lettuce collaborator Nigel Hall for the French Quarter-inspired tune “Quarter Master” toward the end of the performance. Bloom came out early in the number for a solo, while Hall took up the organ for the latter half of the song.

The group, who recorded their upcoming album Family Dinner – Volume 2 at New Orleans’ own Esplanade Studios earlier this year, also worked with a few kids from the Tipitina’s Foundation in the afternoon before their Howlin’ Wolf gig.

Snarky Puppy will continue their tour  when they swing through the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. Their forthcoming album, Family Dinner – Volume 2, will feature a number of top notch guests, including David Crosby, Laura Mvula, Salif Keita, Charlie Hunter, Jeff Coffin and many more. The release will be a follow up to their 2013 effort Family Dinner – Volume 1, which earned the band and vocalist Lalah Hathaway a Grammy for thier collaborative track “Something.”
