Louisiana Musicians Announce Bernie Sanders Benefit Show in Lafayette

Yesterday we reported that a group calling itself New Orleans Musicians for Bernie Sanders was planning to host a benefit concert for Sanders’ presidential campaign at a Frenchmen Street club later this month. Now it looks like some Lafayette area musicians will be getting in on the action too.

Terrance Simien, Givers & Friends, Chubby Carrier, Steve Riley and more will come together for Bernie: An All-star Concert, Forum & Fundraiser. The event will take place on Sunday, February 28 at Warehouse 535 in Lafayette, LA.

The music will get started at 2pm and will run until 10pm. In addition to the performances, there will also be a silent auction, keynote speakers and a discussion forum.

Other artists on the bill include Cedric Watson, Armed Rhymery, The Cavemen, Neat and an “All-Star Cajun and Zydeco Jam.”

A $10 donation to Sanders’ campaign will be required for entry.

Senator Bernie Sanders is currently running against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for President of the United States in 2016. The senator was largely written off early in the campaign, though he has steadily risen in the polls and recently defeated Clinton in the New Hampshire Democratic Primary after losing to her in Iowa by the narrowest of margins.

A few more states will hold their primaries and caucuses before Louisiana hosts its primary on March 5. Sanders last held a rally in the state on July 26, 2015, when 4,500 people came out to see him speak at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, LA.
