Palm Court Jazz Band’s Lucien Barbarin to be celebrated at benefit concert

Through his work with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Harry Connick Jr. and others, New Orleans trombonist Lucien Barbarin is a cherished local musician. Since March 2018, Barbarin has been battling Stage IV cancer. In celebration and support of the beloved man, friends and family are gathering on November 19, 2019 for a benefit and auction in his name.

The “Love for Lu” event takes place at the Palm Court Jazz Cafe (1204 Decatur St.), where Barbarin can be seen leading the venue’s iconic band. In conjunction with a GoFundMe campaign, the benefit will help raise money for expenses not covered by Barbarin’s medical insurance.

Performers include Davell Crawford, Luke Hawkins and more.

Tickets for Love for Lu will only be available at the door and cover admission, a limited buffet and access to a cash bar. The tickets are $25 (cash only), but folks have the option to purchase $50 tickets to be part of “Krewe du Lu” and receive a mystery bag filled with three CDs from local artists.

November 19’s “Love for Lu” takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is all ages. For more information, click here.
