Dr. John to be celebrated by George Porter Jr. & all-star lineup at Tipitina’s

Mac “Dr. John” Rebennack passed away earlier this year, but on November 27 an all-star cast of New Orleans musicians will celebrate The Nite Tripper in a one-night only concert extravaganza.

Musical Director George Porter, Jr. has enlisted the help of (deep breath): Herlin Riley, Alfred Roberts, John “Papa” Gros, John Fohl, Tony Dagradi, Brad Walker, Tracy Griffin, Theresa Andersson, Jolynda Kiki Chapman, Ivan Neville, Jon Cleary, Deacon John, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Anders Osborne, David Torkanowsky, James Andrews, Johnny Sansone, Stanton Moore, Tom McDermott and Josh Paxton.

Tipitina’s and Sonny Schneidau Present: A Tribute to Dr. John will not only celebrate the life and legacy of the late icon but also serve as a benefit for his beloved New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the organization, which provides health and occupational services for musicians, artists, culture bearers and many more sectors of New Orleans’ cultural ecosystem.

Doors for the tribute concert open at 7 p.m., with an 8 p.m. showtime. Tickets are $52.00 and are available at Tipitinas.com.
