Thursday, November 10 in NOLA
Byron Asher’s Album Release shows (Snug Harbor)
Doors: 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Show: 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
New Orleans-based saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Byron Asher, aka Basher, will host his album release show for “Doubles” on Thursday, November 10. Described as having a distinctly New Orleans vibe, the album fuses elements of jazz, pop and art rock to create a “free-jazz party” experience. Tickets are available here.
Friday, November 11 in NOLA
Big 15 Gala (The Sazerac House)
Starts: 8 p.m.
Music education program Roots of Music plans to celebrate 15 years of mentoring low-income students in New Orleans with “The Big 15 Gala,” Friday, November 11. Roots Studio Academy, The Roots of Music Marching Crusaders and The Nayo Jones Experience, followed by a second line led by Re-Creations Brass Band. Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival
November 11 – 13 (Visit website for times)
A little over 20 miles south of New Orleans, the Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival will bring music and seafood to the small town founded on Native American shell middens, pirate commerce and bayou fisherman. At the top of the lineup, artists Lauren Alaina, Better Than Ezra, Martina McBride and many more will perform this weekend, November 11-13. Flowsgiving (The Drifter NOLA)
2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Marching Krewe, NOLA Night Lights, will spin fire and hula hoops as part of a light show with local DJs at the Drifter NOLA. DJs Sunyata, Logan, Semaj, Oura, Wake N Blake will be providing the soundtrack for the event. Funds are for the krewe, with a portion going towards New Orleans Harm Reduction groups. Hans Williams (Tipitina’s)
Doors: 8 p.m.
New Orleans artist by way of Vermont, the 21-year-old Hans Williams, has recorded and released music since he was in the third grade, slinging CDs during recess. He continued releasing new music until he had over a million streams after graduating high school. Now, the Tulane student has grown a significant following within the Gulf Coast college circuit to the point that he is now headlining Tipitina’s. His new single, “Willows” shows off the collaborative direction the singer-songwriter is headed with his band and alt-roots sound. Tickets are available here.
Saturday, November 12 in NOLA
“Forestival” (A Studio in the Woods)
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If the grind of city life has got you feeling down, head out to the woods this weekend for “Forestival” which will take place on the eight acres surrounding “A Studio in the Woods.” This family-friendly event will celebrate local art, music, nature and indigenous history as part of a larger environmental movement in the city. Soberfest (Bridge House/Grace House)
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The first-ever Soberfest is this Saturday, November 12. It will be New Orleans’ first alcohol-free music festival and feature artists Dumpstaphunk, Camile Baudoin of The Radiators, Cha Wa and the Trombone Shorty Academy Brass Band. Lingua Ignota With Silver Godling (Gasa Gasa)
A sold-out show already, but worth mentioning as a testament to the power of Lingua Ignota. Local artist Silver Godling will open the event and also just released a chilling new album “Jenni” capturing the emotional turmoil of losing her sister to cancer. SOLD OUT but worth your ears. Sunday, November 13 in NOLA
Glen David Andrews (BK House)
Doors: 5:30 p.m.
Tremé-native Glen David Andrews blends elements of New Orleans culture with music ranging from jazz to rock to funk. Known for his smooth and gritty voice, as well as his history playing in New Birth, Lil Rascals, and Tremé brass bands, Glen David Andrews represents the culture of New Orleans. Tigers Jaw (Toulouse Theatre)
Show: 8 p.m.
A significant emo and indie rock band, Tigers Jaw will play at Toulouse Theatre Sunday with Heart Attack Man and Glitterer. Born out of the DIY circuits of the northeast and proliferated by the online cultural moment of early 2010s Tumblr, Tigers Jaw aptly captures the intersection between Fleetwood Mac and Saves The Day. The TikTok shenanigans of Heart Attack Man have made them worthy successors of Tigers Jaw’s online-emo legacy while also writing explosive and catchy pop punk. And lastly, Glitterer is the side project of ex-Tigers Jaw frontman Ned Russin that takes a more bedroom pop approach to the already lo-fi emo rock style. Tickets are available here.
