NOLA’s Young @ Art make Instant Art with The Rocketman

Spontaneous art meets wild rock & roll at a weekend NO/AIDS Task Force benefit featuring performance artist Jimmy Descant and rock band, DiNOLA.

“Instant Art” is the theme of an event that the NO/AIDS spinoff group Young @ Art presents this weekend. Unlike many visual artists, Jimmy “The Rocketman” Descant is not boring to watch: His materials are metal scraps, car parts, household objects and just plain junk that he finds in heaps and dumpsters. He uses blowtorches and whatever else it takes to turn them into art.

Meanwhile, on the sonic side, the band DiNOLA is best known for its anthem “I Wanna Die in New Orleans,” which frontman Jim Ford wrote with Dave Catching of Queens of the Stone Age. They’ll play, he’ll sculpt, and sparks will fly.

All this happens at The Green Project Warehouse at 2831 Marais Street this Saturday, March 23 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Tickets are $25 with all proceeds to benefit the NO/AIDS Task Force initiatives.
