Photographers Golden G. Richard, III and Elsa Hahne have been photographing musicians in New Orleans and around the world for over 20 years. Both have received the New Orleans Press Club’s Hal Ledet Print Photography Award (2013 and 2009, respectively) for their work that was published in OffBeat. Golden and Elsa became friends in 2005, started photographing together in 2011, and now have a fine arts partnership and an online photo-documentary publication, High ISO Music — as well as three children — together.

Many of their images have been published over the years in OffBeat Magazine, where Elsa has served as Art Director since 2008. She is also the author of two cookbooks, You Are Where You Eat: Stories and Recipes from the Neighborhoods of New Orleans (University Press of Mississippi, 2008) and The Gravy: In the Kitchen with New Orleans Musicians (High ISO Music, 2013). The latter is a compilation of a series that was published in OffBeat over the past five years called “The Gravy,” written and photographed by Hahne. Both books are presently available in the OffBeat.com web store.

Golden and Elsa met when she interviewed him for her first book, a chapter titled “Haute Cajun.” Golden was born in Jennings, LA, but moved to New Orleans as a toddler. In his day job, he’s University Research Professor of Computer Science at the University of New Orleans. Elsa is originally from Sweden, and lived for many years in Bordeaux, France and in New York City before moving to New Orleans in 2002.

Golden and Elsa aim to convey the energy of live music performance and the spirit of New Orleans music—and of musicians everywhere—in their photographs. Some of their photographs are currently on display at The Bombay Club and available for purchase. Friday’s meet and greet is free and open to the public, with the Bombay Club’s menu and bar open for service. The Bombay Club will offer $4 martinis, $3 beers and $2 food specials during the event.
