Progression, New Orleans’ Weekly Experimental Music Showcase, Unveils September Lineup

Progression, a free experimental music series that takes place every Tuesday night at Gasa Gasa in New Orleans, has announced its lineup for September.

This month will feature four different showcases, which will welcome a variety of different acts to the series’ ever-eclectic stage.

September 6 will have a bit of an indie feel with Sweater Creep, a Loyola-based indie-pop band, Claudio Toulousse, a singer-songwriter from Albuquerque, and Nebula Rosa, a latin-tinged indie/folk outfit featuring George Elizondo (Biglemoi) and Josh Starkman (Fancy Pants).

September 13 will bring the R&B and hip-hop vibes, with sets from neo-soul outfit The Mr., live-band hip-hop act Slangston Hughes, and “African rock” artist Cole Williams (an alumnus of Pimps of Joytime).

Things will take a particularly experimental turn on September 20 when Hildegaard, the flagship band of the Progression Music Series, performs. The electronic art rock group–led by Cliff Hines and Sasha Masakowski–will top a bill that also includes psyshedelic retro-funk ensemble Sexy Dex & The Fresh, as well as Valerie Sassyfras, an electro-zydeco performer with a devout following.

The month will close out on September 27 with sets from electronic improv artists Damn The Scene, improvisation wizards Trapper Keaper featuring Cliff Hines & Brad Walker, and electronic hip-hop artist ML (aka local drummer Miles Labat).
