Quiana Lynell Announces ‘Black Magic,’ A Vinyl-Only Tribute to Louisiana Sound

Grammy-nominated songwriter and internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Quiana Lynell will release her highly anticipated new album Black Magic on April 24, an eight-track project steeped in the musical traditions of Louisiana.

Blending jazz, rhythm and blues, zydeco, gospel and contemporary songwriting, Black Magic finds Lynell at her most personal and intentional. The album was recorded at the legendary Royal Studios and released through QSound Records, Lynell’s own imprint.

In a deliberate nod to analog listening culture, Black Magic will be available exclusively on vinyl, aligning with the continued resurgence of records and a more immersive, tactile listening experience.

The album features collaborations with producer Boo Mitchell and New Orleans pianist Kyle Roussel, and highlights Lynell’s remarkable five-octave vocal range across groove-forward originals and soulful interpretations. Among the standout tracks are the playful lead single “Tweedlee Dee” and the swaying, emotionally rich “Handy Man.”

To celebrate the release, Lynell will bring Black Magic to the stage with appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Baton Rouge Blues Festival, offering audiences a live introduction to the project.

With Black Magic, Quiana Lynell continues to assert herself as both a torchbearer for jazz tradition and a contemporary voice shaping its future—rooted firmly in Louisiana’s musical lineage while expanding its possibilities.
