Raw Oyster Cult Headlines the 2014 New Orleans Oyster Festival

What better way to celebrate one of the city’s signature seafood attractions than by slurping down a dozen raw oysters while listening to Raw Oyster Cult at the 2014 New Orleans Oyster Festival?

On Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, Woldenberg Park along the Mississippi River will host Oyster Fest, and annual celebration of the bivalve molluscs.

The party kicks off on Saturday morning, as the Michael Foster Project takes the stage at 10:30 a.m., followed by the P&J Oyster Shucking Contest at noon, Ben Labat at 1 p.m., the Bucktown All Stars at 2:15 p.m., the Honey Island Swamp Band at 3:45 p.m., and New Orleans Suspects at 5:15 p.m.

On Sunday, the Mercy Brothers start things off at 10:30 a.m., followed by the main event – the Acme Oyster Eating Contest. After the winner is crowned, the Mulligan Brothers will take the stage at 1:15 p.m., followed by Bonerama at 3 p.m., and the festival wraps up with Raw Oyster Cult at 5 p.m.

Almost two dozen restaurants will be on hand to dispense the finest oysters anywhere, from Acme Oyster House to the Desire Oyster Bar, Drago’s, GW Fins, Oceana Restaurant, and more.

The festival is free and open to the public, but you better show up hungry.
