Saxophonist Clarence “Trixzey” Slaughter Dies

We are sad to report that saxophonist Clarence “Trixzey” Slaughter died on Tuesday, January 26 at the age of 26.

image (4)Slaughter was born in Dayton, OH on July 20, 1989 to Caren Scott and William Slaughter. After his father’s death in 2007, Slaughter moved to New Orleans, where he honed his musical skills and became a fixture on Frenchmen Street. Most notably, he performed as a member of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, the Hot 8 Brass Band, the Mario Abney Quintet and Corey Henry’s Treme Funktet. He also led his own band, Trixzey and the Funky People, and worked with a variety of top-notch musicians from around New Orleans and throughout the world.

Slaughter is survived by his sister, grandmother, two aunts, one uncle and his younger brother, trumpet player William Patrick Slaughter.

A few memorials were held in honor of Slaughter last night, and a few more are planned for this week. There will be a second line for him at 6pm tonight, beginning at Esplanade Avenue and North Villere Street, and ending at Checkpoint Charlie’s.
