Sazerac House installs a Mardi Gras house float for Twelfth Night

To usher in the spirit of Carnival season, the Sazerac House has commissioned the Krewe of Red Beans and Mardi Gras artists to create a “house float” installation inside the museum of the famous cocktail. The Twelfth Night celebration will feature interactive photo opportunities, music from the turntable of DJ Ann Glaviano and complimentary individual-sized king cakes from Nonna Randazzo for each visitor.

King Cocktail float at Sazerac House

Sazerac House, in collaboration with the Krewe of Red Beans, installed a “King Cocktail” house float on the ground floor of the museum.

The “King Cocktail” Mardi Gras house float will be unveiled in the lobby of the Sazerac House on January 6 beginning at 11 a.m. Visitors are invited to participate in the float’s decoration and take Instagram-worthy photos. Guests will also have access to exhibits and samples throughout the Sazerac House during the event.

The Krewe of Red Beans began in 2009 with a small group of friends—mostly school teachers and recent transplants to New Orleans—who created parade costumes adorned with red beans and rice. In 2020 the krewe launched an initiative to employ Mardi Gras artists who lacked work due to the COVID-related cancellation of Carnival parades. The krewe raised funds for the construction of “house floats” at 23 properties across the city. Launched on December 4, 2020, this six-week initiative raised $330,000 and created income for 48 people.

Located in a historic building at the corner of Canal and Magazine streets, and just a short stroll from the original 1850s era Sazerac Coffeehouse, the Sazerac House is an immersive exploration of the spirited culture of New Orleans. Featuring three floors of interactive exhibits across 48,000 square feet, including private event venues, an on-site Sazerac Rye distillery, and Peychaud’s Bitters production facility, the Sazerac House welcomes visitors to experience New Orleans history through the stories of its cocktails.  For more information on the Sazerac House, visit www.sazerachouse.com.
