David Shaw of The Revivalists contracts COVID-19, delays solo tour

Even as the country creeps towards a pre-pandemic reality, COVID-19 continues to affect Americans from all walks of life—from mailmen to New Orleans’ very own musicians.

In a post on his official Instagram account, David Shaw of the New Orleans group The Revivalists announced that he has contracted the virus. Shaw fell sick sometime during or after a recent tour to promote his new solo album “despite making all efforts to follow CDC guidelines and protocols.”

“I am relieved to say that I am the only member of the band and crew to test positive. The safety and well-being of my fans, band, crew, and all other staff of the venues and tour is our priority,” Shaw wrote.

While tickets to shows for July 20-21 “will be honored,” Shaw’s upcoming solo performances at the Chicken Box in Nantucket, Mass., have been pushed back to the second week of September. In spite of the postponed performances, he remains grateful that he has only contracted a “mild case” and is “already feeling much better.”

Shaw received the Pfizer vaccine in March and is not certain as to whether he contracted the Delta variant that is spreading rapidly on a global scale.

“We will get through this together, and I can’t wait to see everyone again real soon. Be safe out there,” Shaw confidently closed out the post.

Shaw is scheduled to perform at Jazz Fest with his new solo band on Oct. 8. He will perform with The Revivalists on Oct. 10.
