Trombone Shorty & Cyril Neville to perform on PBS this weekend

This week, Trombone Shorty celebrated his birthday and, as usual, he’s spending it sharing his gifts with an audience. The global icon and New Orleans son will appear on PBS’ “Austin City Limits” this weekend, showcasing his talents and those of his band, Orleans Avenue. Plus, a very special guest will join him on screen.

Cyril Neville, whose contributions to The Meters’ 2018 Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award will be the focus of a special event on January 5, will also appear on Shorty’s episode of “Austin City Limits.” The show, which provides viewers an opportunity to watch live performances, airs weekly on PBS. This is Shorty’s second appearance.

Naturally, Shorty and Mr. Neville bless the crowd with a ton of musical highlights, with Shorty proclaiming, “We about to take you to uptown New Orleans right now!”

Their episode airs Saturday, January 5 at 8 p.m. CST, but OffBeat readers can check out an exclusive clip not included in the episode, below:

“The music of New Orleans has been a part of Austin City Limits’ legacy since the beginning,” according to executive producer Terry Lickona. “The two cities are kindred spirits in so many ways. Virtually every major artist from The Big Easy has played ACL over the years, and Trombone Shorty is the music of New Orleans today.”

Louisiana music fans will have another treat on this season of “ACL,” when Buddy Guy performs on February 2.
