Trombone Shorty Foundation and Anders Osborne Announce Songwriting Series

The Trombone Shorty Foundation, in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, has announced the “Songwriting Masterclass for Beginners” series with musician and songwriter Anders Osborne.

These songwriting workshops are free and will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 2, and Wednesday, October 4, at the Jazz & Heritage Center. The sessions are open to students aged 14 to 24.

The masterclasses aim to provide aspiring songwriters with valuable insights into the craft and art of songwriting. Osborne, with his extensive experience, will guide participants through the art of songwriting, offering a structured approach to music and lyrics. Osborne expresses his enthusiasm: “I am looking forward to spending time with young students. I have a passion for sharing my songwriting experience, and this is an excellent opportunity to do so.”

Anders Osborne, who recently partnered with Tulane University’s Creative Industries program, has built an impressive portfolio of original work and contributed songs to various artists, including Brad Paisley, Tab Benoit, Jonny Lang, Edwin McCain, Sam Bush, Trombone Shorty and Aaron Neville.

The Trombone Shorty Foundation emphasizes the importance of songwriting in the artistic development of young musicians. The foundation collaborates with the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts each year on a statewide songwriting contest that provides college scholarships. Participants in the masterclasses will be encouraged to submit their work. Bill Taylor, Founding Executive Director of the Trombone Shorty Foundation, noted, “We have seen many talented young musicians in our programs. The more tools we can provide them, the better their prospects. Anders is a seasoned professional, and this promises to be both educational and a lot of fun.”

The workshops will be held at the George & Joyce Wein Jazz and Heritage Center at 1225 N. Rampart Street in New Orleans. Limited parking is available behind the building. Attendance is free, but advance registration is required due to space limitations. Register now by clicking here.
