This month’s installment of Vintage Vinyl highlights five artists who each gave us a great tune or two about the rain. And given the weather as of late and a growing list of rainy-day favorites in my record collection, I should have enough for another entry or two as long as the creek don’t rise in 2024. Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 22)

Trains hold a special, nostalgic place in the lives of many and so it stands to reason, to me anyway, that there is nothing better than a good train song. From Elvis singing Junior Parker’s classic “Mystery Train” with its sixteen coaches long to the Clash’s lovelorn “Train in Vain (Stand by Me)” and a job that “don’t pay,” I am reminded of standing on a depot platform waiting with family for a loved one to arrive. Given everything going on in the world today, it is nice when music allows us to close our eyes and step back in our minds if just for the length of a tune. If all goes according to plan pursuant to my current vintage vinyl collection, this will be the first of several train-related installments.
