White Linen Night

Earlier in the week, I wrote about the Gabe Dixon Band and roots rock bands that seem to lower the stakes. I could have been talking about the Julia Street art galleries on White Linen Night. I understand moderate art is more likely to sell, but the only art I saw that I’ll remember were Stuart Klipper’s panoramic photos of South Louisiana in the Ogden, Peter Sarkisian’s video machines upstairs at the CAC and Bruce Davenport, Jr.’s gridlike illustrations of New Orleans’ high school bands. I’m sure artists and musicians who make moderate art sleep better, but I can’t imagine who would care.
