How You Can Help New Orleans Musicians and Culture Bearers after Hurricane Ida

For more than 30 years, OffBeat Magazine has promoted the music industry in New Orleans and surrounding regions in Louisiana. In the wake of Hurricane Ida, we encourage our readers to support the following organizations who are raising funds to support musicians and other culture bearers. This list will continue to be updated.

Culture Aid NolaThe organization provides assistance to underserved members of the hospitality and culture communities of New Orleans and has partnered with the Howlin’ Wolf music venue to distribute free meals.

New Orleans Musicians Clinic – The clinic has put together a list of Ida related health services, including mental health, at neworleansmusiciansclinic.org/ida

Louisiana Hospitality Foundation – The foundation is raising funds to help Louisiana hospitality workers with basic living expenses such as housing (rent, mortgage) and utilities (gas, water, electric).

House of Tulip – House of Tulip provides services to the transgender and gender-nonconforming community in New Orleans.

World Central Kitchen – Chef Jose Andres’ international food assistance organization is in New Orleans feeding first responders and citizens in need.

GLBL WRMNG Relief Aid – New Orleans hip-hop collective GLBL WRMNG is providing direct financial relief to BIPOC artists, musicians and creatives displaced by Hurricane Ida. Find more information here.

Relief for the N’awlins D’awlins Baby Dolls – The N’awlins D’awlins Baby Dolls are integral to the culture and community of New Orleans.

Nola Local, Hurricane Ida Relief Fund – Local photographer Jenny Adams has organized a GoFundMe to raise and distribute funds to those affected by Hurricane Ida. Jenny is available to answer questions on Instagram at @jennyadams22. The GoFundMe is linked here: https://gofund.me/e239d0a8

Fest Fest presented by the Krewe of Red Beans – Fest Fest is directly supporting musicians who lost gigs due to COVID-19 and festival cancellations. As money comes in, Fest Fest will “recreate” the lost festival gigs as surprise porch/yard concerts scheduled for mid-October. Feed the Second Line – Krewe of Red Beans is mobilizing to tarp homes, provide food and supplies, and offer other assistance to Mardi Gras Indians, Baby Dolls, Social Aid & Pleasure Club members, and musicians in the wake of Hurricane Ida. They have tarped and repaired 15 homes already, and are assessing the damage on 130+ homes of known culture. They will be offering more support as money comes in.
