‘Shorty Gras’ to feature Flo Rida, Cha Wa, Rebirth Brass Band, more

Following the Krewe of Freret’s parade on February 11, the third annual Shorty Gras will feature Flo Rida, Cha Wa, Rebirth Brass Band, Flow Tribe, Khris Royal, Hotboy Ronald and, of course, Trombone Shorty. Shorty Gras will begin at 5 p.m. at Mardi Gras World (1380 Port of New Orleans Pl.). Tickets are available here.

With the theme “Let the Band Play On,” the parade will honor New Orleans music icons Big Freedia, Allen Toussaint and Dr. John.

In addition to the lineup, a “Battle of the Marching Bands” will occur between schools Southern University, St. Augustine, Warren Easton, Roots of Music and others to be announced.

Flo Rida, aka Tramar Lacel Dillard, is a south Florida-based hip-hop artist perhaps best known for his 2007 breakout single “Low.” The rapper recently won $82.6 million in a lawsuit with Celsius energy drinks over a botched endorsement deal.

Trombone Shorty recently returned from a cultural excursion to Havana, Cuba with Galactic and Cimafunk to educate young musicians as part of a five-day musical trip. Before that, he and his foundation organized the annual Tunes For Toys concert to benefit New Orleans families during the holidays.
