UPDATE: Lil Wayne Pardoned by Donald Trump

As predicted by Fox News and other media outlets this week, Lil Wayne was pardoned by Donald Trump just before Joe Biden’s Presidential Inauguration.

Wayne’s rap sheet goes back to 2007. The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was arrested in New York City following a performance at the Beacon Theatre when he was initially stopped by police for smoking marijuana near his tour bus. After taking Carter into custody, police discovered a .40 caliber pistol near his person. The gun, which was registered to his manager, was in a bag located near the rapper. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana. New York City has its own rules for purchasing and carrying firearms. To own a handgun, you need a valid City handgun license. It is unlawful for any person to carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license.

Lil Wayne plead guilty in 2020 in federal district court to illegally possessing a loaded, gold-plated .45-caliber handgun while traveling to Florida on a private jet in 2019. The contents of the rapper’s bag also included small amounts of cocaine, ecstasy and Oxycodone, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office . The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida charged Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon in December. He was facing up to 10 years at sentencing.

Over the past four years, Trump and Wayne have expressed support for one another. During the 2020 Presidential Election, Wayne  posed with the president and shared with his 34.8 million followers that he thought Trump had the best interests of the Black community in mind. It appears Trump appreciated Lil Wayne’s enthusiasm and made sure he made the list of presidential pardons before leaving office.
