Katrina 10 Commemorative Parade Routes

The Katrina 10 Commemorative Parade will be taking place throughout the city on Saturday afternoon, August 29. Two second lines are expected to start at 5:15 p.m. both uptown and downtown before culminating in a public block party outside of Ashe Cultural Arts Center.

The downtown second line will see The Yellow Pocahontas Mardi Gras Indian Tribe, Big 7 Social Aid & Pleasure Club, The Hot 8 Brass Band, The Treme Side Walk Steppers, and more make their way through the city, starting at Louis Armstrong Park.

The uptown parade will start at Booker T. Washington High School and will include participants such as the Young Men Olympia Social Aid & Pleasure Club, the Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indian Tribe, The Sons of Jazz Brass Band and many more.

Both second lines are expected to meet at Charity Hospital before marching together to the K10 Commemoration: Power of Community event at the Smoothie King Center and to the Ashe Cultural Arts Center block party that will feature a performance from Brass-A-Holics, local catering from Nola Foods, Café Reconcile and more. The party is set to end at 8 p.m.

The event is co-hosted by Mayor Mitch Landrieu-led initiative Katrina 10 project, which collects data and organizes events in an effort to “commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and move New Orleans forward.”

Also co-hosting the event is non-profit organization Foundation for Louisiana. President and CEO of Foundation for Louisiana Flozell Daniels, Jr. said in a public statement that the parade aims at showcasing the culture and resilience of the people of New Orleans.

“As we continue to work together to rebuild our city ten years after Hurricane Katrina, we want to honor our hard-fought progress and reinforce our commitment to continuing measurable progress toward making New Orleans a just and equitable city.”
